LED For Skin

What are the benefits?

Fast Facts:

  • NASA used LEDs to grow plants in space then later to speed up wound healing and musculoskeletal injuries.

  • Just as plants use photosynthesis, our cells can use light for energy.

  • We have over 200 different cells in our bodies that can absorb photons - particles of light.

  • Wavelength determines the colour and how deep the light penetrates.

  • LEDs use a variety of wavelengths to achieve a cellular response in the skin.

  • Red and Infrared are used mainly for anti-aging purposes and blue light is used to kill P Acnes bacteria.

  • Results are cumulative but can be seen after one treatment due to the increase of circulation

Whats happening on a cellular level?

Our cells use a source of energy called ATP. This energy is used for cell proliferation, generation of proteins, growth factors, inflammatory modulators and DNA synthesis. Basically all the things that keep us young!

Studies have shown that this essential energy currency decreases 5-8% per decade after the age of 18. That's some pretty sad news BUT we have good news… Specific wavelengths of LED light have proven to increase ATP in our cells!

What does this mean for our skin?

Increase in ATP for our fibroblast means more energy for it to produce collagen and elastin to decrease fine lines and wrinkles.

LED is anti-inflammatory. Inflammation is present in all skin conditions ie. Acne, rosacea, eczema, psoriasis.

Kills P acnes bacteria. We recommend the handheld LightStim for Acne for home use 5 days a week to treat acne.

Increased circulation means more oxygen and nutrients are getting to the cells and waste is being taken away.
